CURING GUIDE

Getting the Cure Right

Plastisol ink does not air dry. It requires heat to cure completely. Under-cured prints wash out. Over-cured prints crack. Getting the cure right is the single most important factor in plastisol print quality.

01
🌡️
Temperature
160°C

The ink must reach 160°C throughout the ink film — not just the surface. Use a temperature gun or donut probe to verify actual ink temperature, not just conveyor belt setting.

Under 150°C = under-cure. Print will wash out.

02
⏱️
Time
3 Minutes

Full 3-minute exposure at 160°C for complete cure. Flash cure between colours is fine, but final cure must reach full temperature and time.

Flash cure alone is not a full cure.

03
🧪
Test
Stretch Test

After cure, stretch the print gently. A properly cured print stretches without cracking. If it cracks immediately, increase temperature or time.

Cracking = under-cure or wrong reducer ratio.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Plastisol ink is a PVC-based screen printing ink that does not air dry. It requires heat curing at 160°C for 3 minutes to permanently bond to the fabric. It is the most widely used ink for garment screen printing due to its vibrant colours, soft hand feel, high wash resistance, and excellent stretchability on fabrics.

Phthalates are chemical plasticisers traditionally used in plastisol inks. They have been linked to health and environmental concerns and are banned or restricted by most international buyers. Phthalate-free plastisol uses alternative plasticisers that are safe, compliant, and required for export garment production. Global Inks plastisol is fully phthalate-free.

Global Inks plastisol carries GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), ZDHC MRSL (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals — Manufacturing Restricted Substances List), and OEKO-TEX® certification. These are the three most important certifications required by European and US garment buyers and major global fashion brands.

Plastisol ink works on cotton, polyester, cotton-polyester blends, and most performance fabrics used in garment manufacturing. It is especially suitable for sportswear and activewear due to its high stretchability. It does not work on nylon or waterproof-coated fabrics without special treatment.

Global Inks plastisol cures at 160°C for 3 minutes. The ink film must reach 160°C throughout — not just the surface. Use a temperature gun or donut probe to verify. Under-cured prints will wash out. Over-cured prints may crack or discolour.

Global Inks plastisol is available in 1kg, 5kg, and 20kg packs. Minimum order is 1 box. Contact us on WhatsApp with your colour and quantity requirement for pricing and availability.

We stock the complete Global Inks range — Standard Colours (19 shades), Fluorescent Colours, Process Colours, and the full Specialities range including HD Base, Puff Additive, Glitter Base, Flock Base, Foil Base, Transfer Base, Thermogel, Metallic colours (Silver, Gold, Copper), Radium, Reflective, Reducer, and Gel. Full catalogue available on request.

Standard plastisol prints flat with a soft hand feel. HD Base (High Density) creates a raised 3D dimensional effect with sharp edges — ideal for logos and text. Puff Base expands during cure to create a soft foam-like raised texture — ideal for vintage and textured prints. All three are phthalate-free and part of the Global Inks specialty range.

Print cracking after washing almost always means the ink is under-cured. Check that your conveyor dryer is actually reaching 160°C at the ink surface level, not just the air temperature. Use a temperature probe. Also check that you are not using too much reducer — excess reducer dilutes the ink and can prevent proper curing.
